Belleville Council will decide whether or not to follow in the City of Quinte West’s footsteps on Monday, when it considers a $1 million interest-free loan to the Quinte Humane Society on Monday.
Quinte West approved a similar agreement earlier this week.
A report from CAO Rod Bovay suggests council approve the loan, which would go towards the building of a “badly needed new animal shelter and administrative office” and if the OK is given, a formal agreement will be drawn up.
Belleville is already supporting the animal shelter through an eight-year, $50,000 per year grant, along with the waiving of building permit fees worth about $250,000 and help with connecting sanitary sewer services to the new facility.
