The City of Belleville is continuing to support various community organizations with the Quinte Humane Society the latest beneficiary.
Mayor Mitch Panciuk and Councillor Bill Sandison handed over a $50,000 cheque to QHS officials on Tuesday, part of the city’s $400,000 commitment to the organization.
The humane society says the city has also committed to “providing as many in-kind services as possible to realize a new home” for them.
Following a lack of commitment from the provincial and federal governments, the QHS has decided to break its project up into three phases, the first of which is a new 12,000 square foot animal care and adoption centre, along with a mobile clinic.
The budget for that is $5 million, with plans to build a community and educational centre and an on-site animal medical clinic at a later date.
