Quinte West Mayor Jim Harrison says he’s pleased the Province of Ontario will let residents in his city and the greater Quinte Region, begin to reopen this week.
Hastings-Prince Edward is one of three regions in Ontario that will be allowed to begin lifting COVID-19-related restrictions as of Wednesday, with other areas set to follow in the weeks ahead.
Harrison tells Quinte News the only reason HPE is at the top of the list is because of the commitment of residents and businesses to staying safe and healthy, but says the work isn’t done yet.
“I thank everyone profusely for the job that you’ve done, steadily and consistently. You’ve followed policies and tried to make things work, but let’s do our best to keep where we’re at, keep our numbers down and we’ll consistently be able to move ahead.”
As happy as he is with the announcement, Harrison is still asking people to continue to be cautious and take the necessary steps to keep yourself, your family and the community safe.
