Officials with Loyalist College have announced a big addition to the college’s offered programs with a direct impact on the local job market.
Loyalist College President Dr. Ann Marie Vaughan announced Thursday that Loyalist College will begin offering Level One and Level Two Mechatronics Systems certifications beginning this fall. The college has partnered with Siemens Canada, an international industrial manufacturing company, to offer the program.
Professors trained by Siemens at the Siemens Technik Academy in Nuremberg, Germany will educate students in Mechatronics in manufacturing, which is a large and growing market in the Bay of Quinte. Vaughan also announced the college is investing in a renovation of its skills centre to add a mechatronics lab.
Program co-ordinator Jeremy Braithwaite says the program will be open for enrolment very soon, and they expect the lab will be finished in time for the fall semester.
Mechatronics is engineering that combines mechanical, computer and electrical technology with control and systems theory used in production and manufacturing.
