Residents in Stirling-Rawdon will be asked their opinion on the municipality’s urban/rural ward system soon.
Stirling-Rawdon Mayor Bob Mullins says a questionnaire will be put up on the municipal website and residents will have until the end of March to reply.
Mullins believes there’s no need for wards, one for the village and the other for what used to be known as Rawdon Township.
“You have to be aware of the entire municipality. They can’t say well I’m here for the town or I’m here for the township. They have to get votes in the township and they have to get votes in the town and therefore they can be held responsible.”
Currently there are two councillors from the village and two from the rural area, along with the mayor representing the entire community.
Stirling-Rawdon has a population of around 5,000 people, with about 60 percent of them living in the rural area.
