The Sir John A. Macdonald statue working group has agreed on a recommendation as to what to do with the controversial statue.
The working group met on Tuesday morning and the majority of the members voted in favour of removing the statue from downtown Picton.
There were five options presented to the group, keeping the statue as is, removing the statue (with an option for later consideration), relocating the statue, replacing the statue or modifying the statue.
The seven members of the working group voted for their most-preferred to least-preferred option resulting in a weighted average.
There was no discussion during the meeting as to why that decision was the one most favoured by members of the working group.
Mayor Steve Ferguson thanked the group for its hard work and dedication over the last few weeks dealing with this sensitive issue.
The recommendation will now be presented to the Prince Edward County Heritage Advisory Committee on October 27 with a special council meeting to address the statue scheduled for November 17.
