It was a multi-year project, however the Raise the Arrow campaign has come to an end.
Project head John Burzynski has announced after searching for years for free flight models of the Avro Arrow, there is no likelihood of finding any more intact.
Burzynski says there were 12 test models of the Avro Arrow fired from the south shore of Prince Edward County into Lake Ontario (1954-1957).
One of those models was discovered in 2017, and brought to the surface in 2018. It is now on display in Ottawa.
Earlier this month, after a long COVID-related layoff, the sonar team headed back out to search several square kilometres of lake bottom, about 10 kilometres off The County shore.
They discovered numerous pieces of test models, but they were all destroyed.
The models travelled more than 640 km/h, slamming into the water, and breaking on impact.
Burzynski says they have found several pieces, but do not expect to bring any more to the surface.
