Belleville’s Economic and Destination Development Committee held a brief discussion on possibly connecting more Loyalist College students with the city’s Downtown District.
During its virtual meeting on Thursday Councillor Ryan Williams noted that Loyalist was contemplating the idea of redeveloping its residence and suggested there might be opportunity to put some student housing in the downtown core.
Williams says there are a few reasons why he thinks the idea could work.
“There may be land that has come up that might be available. Number two is we looked at the connection of our bike trails, there’s been a connection from Loyalist, right to downtown through our trail system. Number three, it does fit boxes for downtown residential development.”
Downtown District Executive Director Marijo Currier said they would “excited to work with Loyalist” on a project like that, with Dug Stevenson of the Bay of Quinte Regional Marketing Board echoing that, saying it would be a great “community development project”.
