The mayor of Quinte West is not participating in this week’s meeting of the Association of Municipalities of Ontario since he refuses to pay the registration fee.
Mayor Jim Harrison says he knows there are meetings with cabinet ministers during the virtual AMO sessions, but he doesn’t think he needs to spend $650 to register.
He realizes there are meetings with Minister of Health Christine Elliott, and sessions regarding Long Term Care, but thinks it’s not worth the money.
Meanwhile Mayor Harrison tells Quinte News he is very pleased with the COVID-19 assessment centre at the Duncan MacDonald Arena in Trenton and hopes there will be improvements to that centre this fall, ahead of the influenza season.
Regarding the fact Premier Doug Ford addressed the AMO convention on Monday morning, Harrison told Quinte News, “The premier spoke today and I’m sure his message, whatever it is, I can get it on line, or I can watch it on the (TV) news. That’s likely what I’m going to do.”
