A large grass fire has resulted in 401 east being shut down near Glen Miller Road.
Quinte West firefighters from Batawa were called to mile marker 529 around 4:30 this afternoon (Friday) to fight the blaze.
Additional manpower from Stations 2 and 3 were called to help battle the blaze.
Heavy, black smoke was carrying across the highway obscuring motorists’ vision resulting in the closure of the major highway.
