A new hospital in Picton is one step closer to becoming a reality.
MPP Todd Smith was in Prince Edward County this (Friday) morning to announce that the Provincial Government has approved stage two of the hospital planning process.
Smith says the next stage of planning can now begin, which will include designs for a building layout, floor plans, mechanical and electrical systems and other details.
County Mayor Steve Ferguson says “hospitals are cornerstones of communities” and a new one in The County will make an incredible difference for residents.
PEC Memorial Hospital Foundation Board Chair Barbara McConnell says this step in the process wouldn’t have been possible without the support of the community and the foundation’s donors.
Smith told Quinte News it is expected this step will take many months before it is completed and is based on how quickly the designs come together.
He wrapped up by reiterating that today’s announcement is a big step and is the point of no return, saying this hospital will be built.
