A ceremony to mark the 75th Anniversary of the World War Two liberation of the Netherlands from German occupation by Canadian Forces, including the Hastings Prince Edward Regiment, was held in Brighton on Wednesday.
Brighton has been flying the Netherlands flag all week and officially raised it in a ceremony on the anniversary of the liberation.
Mayor Brian Ostrander and Lieutenant Colonel John Inrig attended.
Deputy Manager of the Hastings Prince Edward Regiment Museum Neil Burrell tells Quinte News the Brighton Digital Archives worked with them to video tape the various wartime experiences of former Netherlands residents now living in the Quinte area.
Burrell says one resident was just eight years old when delivering Resistance newsletters.
Jenny Klompmaker of Belleville, who paid tribute to the 75th anniversary on her lawn Wednesday with flags and a sign, tells Quinte News she remembers the Canadian soldiers liberating her town in the Netherlands.
She says she was a child and remembers having a Canadian soldier come to their home.
Klompmaker came to Canada with her family as a teenager and says she loves living here.
