The Belleville Fire Department has provided more information regarding last week’s fire at an old former auto repair shop on Highway 62 north of Maitland Drive.
The fire destroyed the structure, which housed a pickup truck, a racing car, tires, and other equipment.
The Fire Department now says the damage estimate is up to $300,000 but that the building and contents were insured. The fire’s cause is suspicious and Belleville police continue an investigation.
The blaze was especially dangerous in that a large propane tank and gas pumps were right next door at an Esso gas station and associated variety store.
