Loyalist College will be offering new programs in the fall of 2020 and the winter of 2021.
At the college’s board of governors meeting on Wednesday afternoon, the academic committee had its report approved for two new programs and the modification of existing programs.
A new cyber security program and a wireless information networking program will be introduced at Loyalist’s Mississauga campus with the target of a January 2021 start date.
An artificial intelligence program is also in the process of being approved.
Loyalist College President Dr. Ann Marie Vaughan said there will also be modifications to existing programs at the Belleville campus.
The law clerk advanced program will be modified to make sure there is no overlap with the paralegal program and the global logistics program will be revised to an enterprise resource planning program, which will be a two-year program and go beyond business logistics.
Aside from those changes, Vaughan adds that the college is looking into adding new programs in the tech and trades departments.
She says Loyalist will also look to make changes to the nursing program by allowing students to complete the program at the Belleville campus.
Vaughan says the college is working with Quinte Economic Development to see what additions are needed to the college for these new programs to be added.
“We need to do an assessment to see what meets the labour market and program requirement needs and what purchases need to be made by the college to meet the industry requirement.” said Vaughan.
The board of governors will meet again on March 25, 2020. Vaughan says there will be some big announcements regarding new programs at Loyalist College.
