A significant piece of new equipment has arrived at Prince Edward County Memorial Hospital.
Thanks to the generosity of donors and the fundraising work of the hospital foundation, a new portable X-ray machine was recently delivered to the Picton hospital and replaces a 14-year-old machine that had become outdated and inconvenient.
The new machine can be moved to any of the patient care areas in the hospital and is especially beneficial for diagnosing patients who can’t get to the X-ray room.
It also speeds up the process for doctors in the event of a trauma situation, as they’ll be able to see X-ray images at a patient’s bedside, saving crucial moments in potentially dire situations.
The foundation raised close to $115,000 during the holiday phase of its fundraising campaign and is still trying to raise another $137,500 to pay for the balance of the machine, as well as 17 IV infusion transport pumps, before the end of March.
