- Keeping the youth engaged in the election is a priority and the United Way of Hastings and Prince Edward is a partner in an upcoming federal candidate meeting which will aim to keep the youth momentum going after it was identified that the local election is a priority area of interest to local youth.
Youth2Youth HPE, along with the St. Joseph’s Parish Social Justice Committee and the Poverty Roundtable of Hastings-Prince Edward will hold a debate on October 15 focusing on A Just and Sustainable Future.
Topics will include affordable housing, addiction and mental health, poverty reduction and the transition to an environmentally sustainable economy.
Candidates will be asked to describe how their parties will address concerns related to equity, how they will protect and advance individual rights and if they have strategies for economic and other challenges which may impact the ability of youth to look forward with hope.
Four of the five Bay of Quinte candidates have already confirmed their attendance to the meeting which will take place at St. Joseph’s Parish Centre on Victoria Avenue. Doors open at 6:30 p.m., with the meeting beginning at 7 p.m.
