The City of Quinte West is applying for some federal funding to help with a few upcoming projects.
An application will be made through the Investing In Canada Infrastructure Program to secure some cash to help renovate the old Trenton Town Hall, at a cost of $1.4 million and extend the waterfront trail at a cost of $6.4 million.
The funding would be split between the three levels of government (40% federal, 33.33% provincial, 26.57% municipal) and those projects would have to be mostly complete by 2027.
Work on the waterfront trail would include a 6.4 km extension south, from Dufferin Avenue to Fort Kente Road, including a three-metre wide asphalt pathway, solar lights, fitness pods, benches and landscaping.
The city is applying for more than $4.6 million worth of funding for that project and would have to spend just over $1.7 million itself.
The Trenton Town Hall renovation could include installation of a full-size elevator, exterior stone work, landscaping, signage, heating and cooling improvements, washroom upgrades and more.
If approved, the grant would cover just over $1 million of the work, while the city would foot the bill for the remaining $373,000 or so.
An original plan to ask for money to put a turf field at Centennial Park was put on hold, as staff look into the feasibility of putting up an indoor facility with a turf field instead.
The deadline to apply for the funding is November 12, 2019, so staff are planning to have a report on an indoor sports facility back to council before then.
