UPDATE @ 3:15 p.m.: Witnesses say a power outage in Carrying Place was the result of a lightning strike.
Samantha Fox tells Quinte News a tree in her yard was hit by lightning and fell on power lines, causing them to split and come down, just before 1:00 Tuesday afternoon.
Prince Edward County firefighters were called to the scene and dealt with the resulting fire, while Hydro One crews handled the downed power lines.
The utilities company says 375 people are affected by the outage, which was supposed to be fixed by just after 4:00 this afternoon.

Residents in Carrying Place are dealing with a power outage after power lines came down early this afternoon.
Prince Edward County firefighters responded to 2275 County Road 64, near Gardenville Road just before 1:00 p.m., to reports of the lines down and on fire in front of a home.
Hydro One is now reporting 178 customers are affected and should have their power back by 4:15 p.m.
There’s been no update on what caused the lines to come down, or if anyone was injured.
