The Moira River may have peaked, but the worst may be yet to come for the Bay of Quinte.
On Friday morning at city hall, Mayor Mitch Panciuk told a media conference that the city’s Emergency Control Group has been activated.
He says it is believed that water levels in the bay may get to the record levels of 2017.
Deputy Fire Chief Paul Patry tells Quinte News that residents that could be affected by high water should have an emergency bag ready to go.
South George, South Church, and South John Streets will eventually be closed.
The reason for so much water focuses on Lake Erie. There are no stops for the flow into Lake Ontario, which is pushing higher than normal levels back into the Bay of Quinte.
Panciuk says water could stay this high for upwards of two months. Roads will be raised as well.
Mayor Panciuk’s full statement is available below.
