Belleville has a new three-year contract with its firefighters but that only brings the issue up to the end of 2017.
The contract covers the years 2015, 2016 and 2017.
It gives the firefighters a 2.24% pay hike over the three years.
This means a first class firefighter makes $95, 550 a year, second class $85,995, and the senior fire prevention officer at $119, 438.
The signing of the contract followed a long stretch of arbitration about insurance coverage on in-line-of-duty death.
The new contract says “Line of Duty Death due to occupational disease shall be deemed as an “accidental death” as determined by the WSIB.”
The city’s Human Resources Manager Tim Osborne tells Quinte News he anticipates that both parties will be back at the table in the next month or so to begin negotiations on the next contract, which would begin coverage in January of 2018.
