The Belleville Police Services Board recognized a handful of citizens and officers for their service and bravery at its regular meeting on Thursday.
Among those is constable Ryan Laycoe, who jumped into the Bay of Quinte last September, to rescue a 68-year-old woman who had jumped off the Norris-Whitney Bridge.
Laycoe, who was carried onto the bay on a Belleville Fire Department boat, says despite the early morning darkness and the added 25 pounds of full equipment he was wearing, there was no second thought to getting in the water.
The board also recognized Connie Reid from the Children’s Foundation and the police force’s Auxiliary Unit for their community service, Allan Ferguson for his role in jumping in to help an officer during an arrest and Detective Sergeants Roy Kendall and Pat Kellar for their work in laying 79 charges connected to online child exploitation last year.
