Looking ahead to 2019: Belleville Police Service

2018 was a year of successes for the Belleville Police Service according to Chief Ron Gignac.

He told Quinte News, he is looking to continue that trend in 2019.

He is still working towards making Belleville the safest community in Ontario and believes it’s attainable and sustainable.

In 2019, Gignac is looking forward to the Belleville Police Service is being featured in Blue Line magazine for their work on next generation technology being used by officers.

He says they want to be leaders in not only technology but with financial stewardship in mind.

The Chief is also looking ahead to progress being made on the new police station at the corner of Sidney and College streets.

Gignac says this will be a state of the art facility designed with the next generation in mind, as well as being a building that can be used by the public to hold meetings as well.

The service is set to move into the new facility in 2020.

In terms of challenges that may present themselves in 2019, Gignac says it’s all about recognizing the emerging trends and being ahead of the curve.

He says it’s about having their ears to the ground and knowing what the trends are, seeing what issues could be migrating across borders and having the support of the Police Service Board.
