An old factory along Belleville’s waterfront is being torn down.
The Stephens Adamson building on Franklin Street has been standing empty for years and the owners of the building Metso Corporation have decided to tear it down.
City of Belleville building officials say a demolition permit was issued on October 12 and that work began earlier this week.
Metso Spokesperson Bob Wissing tells Quinte News “the building was getting old and had become an attractive nuisance” and the company felt it was better to tear it down, than risk having someone go inside the building and get hurt.
Wissing says as far as future plans go, there had been some conversation about what to do with the soon-to-be-vacant land but “nothing came to fruition”.
