The local chapter of the Ontario Nurses Association, with staff serving the Hastings and Prince Edward Public Health Unit, is now in a legal position to strike.
ONA Labour Relations Officer Angie Stott tells Quinte News the union has received a no board report effective September 8, which means nurses working for the health unit, could hit the picket line on September 25.
Mediation talks have been scheduled for September 19 to try and get a contract done, with key sticking points continuing to be short-term disability, benefit improvements and wages.
The more than 40 employees have been working without a contract since the end of last year.
