It was third time’s a charm for Belleville’s Royal Haveli Restaurant.
The Indian restaurant won its first Belleville’s Best Spicy Food Contest on Wednesday, after finishing second the previous two years, serving a dish of chicken curry with rice and spicy potatoes.
Owners Rakesh and Anu Dutta say the plan was to make something spicy, but not cover up the flavour of the dish.
Dutta says the competition, which is gaining more traction each year, is one of the best things happening for local restaurants in the area.
Earl & Angelo’s was second with its smoky hot wings and Birdy’s Fine Casual Dining was third with its smoky sesame Korean beef.
The other restaurants that took part included:
– Birdy’s Fine Casual Dining
– Boston Pizza Belleville
– Bourbon Street Pizza
– Burger Revolution
– Chilangos Mexican Restaurant (Host)
– Earl & Angelos
– Paulo’s Italian Trattoria
