Belleville hockey star Hanna Bunton has made history. Hanna scored the first goal for the Vanke Rays as they defeated the Toronto Furies 3-0 in the Canadian Women’s Hockey League. Vanke is one of two new teams based in China to join the CWHL this season. Bunton also had an assist and was named the first star.
Meanwhile, Bunton’s alma mater, the Cornell Big Red took a 6-0 pounding from another St. Theresa graduate, Cassidy Vinkle and the Clarkson Golden Knights in NCAA Division 1 women’s hockey. Vinkle had an assist in the win and has 2 goals and 4 assists in 10 games.
And a big weekend for Belleville’s Abbott Girduckis as he had a hand in a pair of wins for the Rochester Institute of Technology Tigers over Army. Girduckis set up the insurance goal in RIT’s 3-1 win on Saturday then had 3 assists in a 5-4 victory yesterday. The Nicholson Catholic College grad has 2 goals and 5 assists.
