The City of Belleville is investigating options on how to move forward and get the owner of the former Intelligencer building to continue fixing it.
After a legal battle between the city and Prime Canadian Properties two years ago, the court ordered repairs after pieces of the east wall came crashing down to the sidewalk.
Some repairs were made in September 2015, however city officials say much more still needs to be done.
While the city’s chief building official Ted Marecak couldn’t divulge exactly what those measures include, he expressed how it’s unfortunate the landmark at the corner of Pinnacle and Bridge Streets has become run down.
Marecak said there are more things the City could do from a building code perspective but it would cost the municipality a bunch of money. He added he is thinking they might need to go that route based on the owner’s history.
