Astoria Organics, one of Canada’s largest organics processing facilities, has opened in Belleville.
In late September, the Phillipston Road facility opened shop and is already receiving lots of material.
Al Hamilton is President and CEO and says it has been steady.

He says they have had contracts lined up ready for when they opened and they have immediately started coming in.
Astoria can accept up to 70,000 metric tonnes of organic waste annually, creating 45,000 metric tonnes of compost.
Bio-solids, paper sludge, food waste and clean wood waste are all accepted at the site.
It cost about $19 million to construct the site.
