There’s no such thing as a free lunch, or so they say, but there is definitely such a thing as free parking, in downtown Belleville.
Yesterday (Monday), city council passed a motion brought by Mayor Taso Christopher that free parking
in the downtown be offered for next month and November.
And, traditionally, in December, free parking can always be had in the downtown as part of the Feed the Meter Campaign.
Mayor Christopher said the revitalization of downtown so far had gone smoothly and there had been great cooperation between business people, the contractors and the city.
Councillor Mitch Panciuk wondered why the Mayor hadn’t supported such a plan when the DBIA asked for it in the past.
By offering free parking in October and November, the city will lose around $74,000 in revenue.
