Residents of the Quinte region, with certain health issues, will soon be able to take advantage of a high-tech program that connects them directly to paramedics.
The Hastings-Quinte social services committee approved joining the Remote Patient Monitoring program.
The program uses technology to monitor selected patients for vital signs that can give early indication of fluctuations in blood pressure, weight, and blood sugar levels.
Administrator Jim Pine says paramedics will train the patients then monitor the results at emergency services.
Between 100 and 200 patients will be selected including the 60 Belleville and Quinte West patients in the parmedicine pilot project.
The program would be carried out in connection with their own medical services.
