The change needs to go through a public information and appeals process, but Prince Edward County Council has voted to cut back on development charges to kickstart more “affordable housing”. Some on council didn’t want to change the development charges bylaw, preferring each building application be judged for a rebate on it’s own merit. But most agreed with Councillor Bev Campbell, who says dealing with individual developers in a random manner would lead to trouble. The proposed change could mean around 3 thousand dollars less in development charges on approved “affordable housing”.
