A family of eight, from halfway ’round the world, owes its new chance in life to the Belleville community. The Quinte Interfaith Refugee Sponsorship committee introduced the refugee family from the Congo, who lost their parents to war, to City Council last night. The eldest, Kennedy Huruma, a Loyalist College graduate and a university student in Oshawa, says Belleville volunteers have helped his entire family, ages six to twenty-six, to integrate. Committee spokesman Frank Quinn says a fundraising campaign has just been launched to help the family, after government funding runs out this fall. Donations may be made through St. Thomas Anglican Church.
