The City of Quinte West has its first customer.
Huron County has just purchased software for the PRISM 911 service… invented by the Quinte West planning department.
Quinte West manager of information technology, Ed Woods, says the idea in selling the service to other municipalities is not to make money, but to save lives.
PRISM 911 is the made-in-Quinte-West service… used to notify the public by telephone in case of emergencies… such as boil water advisories and missing child alerts.
The system went up for sale late last year.
It’s an educational process in Quinte West.
When the city had its last boil-water advisory in February, the public got confused… and started dialing 911 to find out what was going on.
Woods says to stop any confusion, they’ve taken out any reference to 911 in the recorded message.
