Work is underway in Belleville’s west end on the ongoing project of keeping stormwater out of the city’s sewage treatment system.
Cobourg Development Services has been awarded the contract to separate the mains on three streets, Sinclair, Ritchie and Stokes. That contract, at one-point-thee million dollars, will be two-thirds paid for under the Building Canada Fund. It was the lowest of three tenders. The project is aimed at saving cost and capacity at the sewage treatment plant, since stormwater doesn’t need to be treated before entering the Bay of Quinte.
