Mayor and Council moved quickly to publicly clarify it’s position regarding recent layoffs in it’s Community Leisure Department. The clarification was in regards to a published comment by Councillor Fred Kuypers who was quoted saying that in the private sector people who had been fired are not re-hired in another capacity by the same organization.
Four members of the department had been laid off as their positions disappeared because the new YMCA will be taking over much of Quinte West’s recreation programs. Meanwhile, the new “Y” will open it’s doors for business at 6am, Tuesday, May 26th.
