Carman United Church isn’t getting much support from Brighton Council. The committee to restore the heritage building asked council, last month, for a 10-thousand dollar grant plus a low interest loan of up to 40-thousand to provide them with enough funds to cover the estimated 100-thousand dollars worth of work on the building. The committee has already raised 45-thousand. Ian Kennedy is president of the committee and feels Town Council is “shirking its responsibilities”. Councillor Brian Ostrander says he wouldn’t feel comfortable giving public money away to a church or even loaning them the money.
