Belleville is backing a move to have volunteer firefighters receive the same health and safety coverage as full-time firefighters.
Fire Chief Ray (Rheaume) Chaput told city council that all firefighters are exposed to carcinogens to the same extent. And he said the the financial impact is the same. Councillor Jack Miller said “it’s only fair” that they have the same Workers Safety Insurance Benefit as full-time staff. City council voted to support a resolution from the town of Ingersoll calling on the province to end the discrimination against the volunteers.
