A cadet warrant officer who testified he was the “top cadet” in his home squadron in Trenton has been sentenced for sexual assault.
Twenty-year-old Mykel Steeves was convicted in Kingston Court of sexually assaulting a 16-year female flight sergeant under his supervision while he was a member of the H-M-C-S Ontario’s 2007 summer training staff in Kingston.
The victim testified Steeves made unwelcome sexual advances, began trying to kiss and touch her, and tried unsuccessfuly to pull off some of her clothing.
Steeves is appealing his conviction, which includes a nine-month jail term, and was granted an interim judicial release pending his appeal hearing.
