The tax rates in Belleville are expected to be set at a special meeting of City Council this morning. Earlier this month, Council ordered staff to take another look at the numbers and reduce the city portion of the budget to find further cuts. It’s expected that if council approves the presentation from staff the city’s portion would include a zero increase…however, tax hikes are still expectd to occur because of increased budgets from external agencies such as social services and the police service budget. Council meets at 930am.
