The Kawartha-Pine Ridge School Board has issued redundancy notices to 159 teachers.
The notices were sent out to the 125 elementary and 34 secondary teachers after the board realized it wouldn’t need them next September because of an expected enrolment decrease of one-thousand students.
The board hopes the number of teachers declared redundant can be lowered over the next few weeks through retirements, resignations and personal requests for decreases in teaching time.
Teachers who received notices will be put on a recall list, and will have the opportunity to be placed on the occasional teaching list.
