The Hastings-Prince Edward Health Unit hopes it can reduce the number of student school suspension notices it has to send out because of immunization records.
Spokesperson Carol Snell says about five-hundred children don’t have up-to-date records for diphtheria, tetanus, polio, measles, mumps and rubella, as required by provincial legislation.
Suspensions begin on May first for any student whose parent or guardian can’t provide proof of immunization for those diseases.
Snell says Health Unit staff are checking records before sending out the notices in the next week.
