The Quinte Exhibition and Raceway Board of Directors wants harness horse racing to start up soon on the old track off Sidney Street in Belleville, and so does Baymount Incorporated, the company planning to build a new track and slots parlour on Bell Boulevard. However, QER President, Doug Rollins, says the ball is now in the Ontario Racing Commission’s court. The old oval doesn’t meet current standards, and meeting them could be very expensive. Rollins believes it’s a 50-50 chance that the ORC will ease off on it’s regulations. If so, 17 races are planned, starting in late May.
