The Hastings and Prince Edward Board of Education is working on its 2009 – 2010 budget.
Director of Finance, Dave Rutherford, says for the last few years the number of elementary students has been dropping. He says this means a drop in enrolment of high school students, and fewer teachers. The provincial grants for students sits at 172-point-five million dollars. The province made grant cuts in a number of areas, including 217-thousand from each of the textbook and computer budgets. The Board of Education is expected to set its final budget June 15.
