It’s a statistic no one is happy with. Quinte West OPP have told the city’s police board that to the end of March, 18 impaired driving charges have been laid, more then double the number laid for the same period last year. OPP had not greatly increased the number of RIDE programs, so there was no immediate reason for the 125 percent increase in impaired charges.
Quinte West Detachment Commander, Inspector Earl Johns, said the slumping economy might be a factor leading to increased drinking.
