Belleville may soon be seeking senior government funding for two multi-million dollar sports and entertainment facilities…with the hope of getting money for at least one.
Mayor Neil Ellis told the Chamber of Commerce breakfast today (yesterday) that the city is looking at a multi-plex facility with a pool and a five-thousand-seat arena-entertainment facility on the next round of government funding. He says the pool complex would be located at the Quinte Sports Centre and a new arena-entertainment complex, housing the Belleville Bulls, would be on a highway 4-0-1 site. Mayor Ellis estimates each facility at 35-million dollars, with the city paying one-third. He hopes business sponsorship would help pay some of the city’s cost.
