A new joint archive building will be located in Belleville’s downtown.
For years archives from Hastings County, Belleville and the Historical Society have been endangered by mould, mice and rainstorms in the old Canifton Hall. Now Belleville has bought the former Irish Hall to be renovated as an archival centre, with the other parties involved. Mayor Neil Ellis says the cost was 275-thousand dollars…with the city probably using the sale of the old Canifton Hall to pay its share. Mayor Ellis says proper storage of records in very important and old records are often needed for city business.
