The Hastings-Quinte Director of Social Services is concerned that the number of people on welfare has “already” reached the 15-percent increase predicted for the end of this year.
But Eric Frye says there is some good news as well, as more people are finding work. Frye says 20-percent of the caseload is working, either part-time or at low wages, and getting welfare subsidy….the best record per-capita in the province. Three-thousand-384 people were on welfare last month, supporting a total of eight-thousand people.
