One of the unions representing employees at Quinte Health Care is going to fight the proposed closing of 69 beds at four hospitals.
Local One of the Service Employees International Union will file a grievance against the reduction in beds from 324 to 255 as part of a 9.4-million dollar cost-cutting plan, and 79 staff, including ten S-E-I-U members, could be laid off.
Union official Brad Philp says Quinte Health Care would be violating the terms of the collective agreement with the Service Employees by not consulting the union before cutting services and reducing the number of workers.
