The Minister of Public Safety toured Warkworth Institution yesterday(monday), and left impressed, but made no commitments regarding the prison’s future.
Mayor of Brighton Chris Herrington, and Northumberland County Warden Linda Thompson, met with Minister Peter Van Loan yesterday, stressing how important Warkworth Institution was to the local economy.
There have been rumours that the local prison might be closed, and replaced by a super prison located elsewhere. No decision has been made.
