A local Medical Officer of Health says obesity is “creeping up” as a major problem and will be the public health challenge for the next 25-years. A report to the Board of Health, yesterday, indicates more than 50-percent of people living in Hastings and Prince Edward counties are over-weight and, are physically inactive, and 44-percent are “frequent” T-V” watchers. Doctor Richard Schabas says it’s a public health epidemic almost like tobacco use was 25-years ago. Public Health officials say they are now taking a more “balanced” approach to healthy eating, without focussing on weight.
